Murals of Injustice

The third conspiracy theory focuses on the imagery and subjects of the murals by Leo Tanguma throughout the DIA that are claimed to represent extinction, genocide, and destruction (Bailey 1). “Some believe that Tanguma's "Children of the World Dream of Peace" and "In Peace and Harmony with Nature" are filled with themes of Nazism, death, genocide, and an apocalyptic single-government world, despite their positive titles, according to Uncover Colorado” (Humphries 1). It is perceived as a horrific and bleak scene with little to no hope, so why would an airport want these images to be displayed for so many to see? The conspiracies may seem outlandish, but they may be closer to the truth than some may think. Leo Tanguma’s paintings were intended to draw attention to the horrors that society has suffered and what is to come (“About the Artist | Leo Tanguma Chicano Muralist”). According to Leo Tanguma “The key element found in all of his work is the struggle for dignity, justice, self-determination, and human rights” (“About the Artist | Leo Tanguma Chicano Muralist”). Bringing awareness to the inhumanity that is plaguing our society in this manner may seem cruel or harsh, but these issues are inevitable.
